Module 1
HOW TO DRAW A CROISSANT
reflection
The focus of this module was creating a two-dimensional representation of a croissant, with the aim of preserving its form and textural qualities. I gained basic skills in photography, photo editing and in the formal constructions and presentation of orthographic and axonometric drawings.
I came across unexpected issues in transforming photographs into elevations, due to the foreshortening effects of linear perspective. Ultimately, I managed to edit the croissant photographs to a point I was satisfied with, and then proceeded with the drawing stages.
I was very pleased with the outcome of my renderings, despite them each taking between 4 and 8 hours. I was able to closely replicate the croissant texture and appreciated the rigour of what I might have considered a “cheater’s method” of drawing – applying tracing paper directly over an image. This module helped me appreciate precision in design, and prompted me to think more deeply about even the most seemingly trivial things.
